Blackhawks GM’s Hilarious Man-on-the-Street Interview at NHL Draft Goes Viral

Hours before drafting Canadian sensation Connor Bedard with the first overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft on Wednesday, Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson accidentally starred in a hilarious interview that hockey fans everywhere loved.

Davidson was out for a walk in the streets of Nashville in rather nondescript clothing when he was stopped to do an interview with Penalty Box Radio, which was asking fans in town for the draft questions about hockey. Rather than revealing his identity, Davidson went through the entire video as “Kyle from Chicago," producing a video that has since gone viral.

Here’s the full exchange.

At one point Davidson is asked on a scale of 1–10 how much he knows about hockey. His response: four, because he didn’t play professionally.

“Some people say I don’t know that much,” Davidson says, completely deadpan.

Towards the end of the video, Davidson is asked whether he believes the NHL rigged the draft lottery to send the No. 1 pick (and the rights to draft Bedard) to Chicago.

“No,” Davidson said, before adding that he’s “very confident” in his answer.

Humorously, Davidson told Mark Lazerus of The Athletic that he actually had to wait in line behind two other fans in Blackhawks jerseys to get on camera. Neither fan recognized him, either.
