Blackburn United boss confident club can avoid drop but wants to see home form improve

Blackburn United manager Mark Campbell believes his side can avoid the drop from the East of Scotland Premier Division but says turning around their poor home form will be crucial to their hopes of climbing out of the relegation places, writes Callum McCormack.

Speaking after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Penicuik Athletic at the weekend, he said: “I said to them, we need to start winning our home games or taking something away from them. We’ve not really been doing great at home.

“If they can rectify that and start winning more games at home, we play Tynecastle here in a few weeks so it’s really important if we can pick that up."

Before that though, United will once again face Penicuik this weekend, this time away from home and Campbell feels the double header could be to their advantage.

He added: "Obviously we’ve got Penicuik this weekend, so we know what it's going to be like. It’s on the grass and we’re good away from home.

“Was there a lot in the game? Was there a massive difference? Not really. They were more clinical in front of goal.”

Looking towards the rest of the season, United currently sit four points behind Hill of Beath Hawthorn in 15th place in the East of Scotland Football Premier Division after 25 games but Campbell hopes his side can look beyond just safety.

He said: “Safety is key for this club, if you look at the table we’re in the relegation zone but we’ve got a couple of games in hand, it’s still in our hands. We’ve got to just win as many games as possible”.

“If we win two or three games in a row we’re looking at catching the middle table. We’re good enough, we’re young enough, we’ve got a lot of energy and we’re confident in staying up. So we’ve got to be positive and stay positive."
