'Black water' sewage pumped onto beaches of popular holiday resort sparks fury

Worrying footage captures what appears to be 'black water sewage' running onto a popular tourist beach.

The video was filmed from an eyewitness at a nearby hotel at Acapulco beach in Mexico.

They say the apparent sewage outbreak lasted 25 minutes, with the footage appearing to show a vile black liquid running down the beach and into the sea.

The eyewitness told Reuters: “The constant outflow of black water lasted approximately 25 minutes, which came with a lot of pressure.

“They were very stinking waters, they made me nauseous”.

The footage sparked outrage on social media.

One person tweeted: "Please share this disgusting video with your followers and tag people, celebrities, influencers and news media who need to see this and as dumping sewage/black water into #Acapulco contaminating the water & killing marine life is NOT OKAY AND MUST BE STOPPED NOW!"

Another said: "Thousands of gallons of disgusting raw sewage going into Acapulco Bay. Killing beautiful marine life, I literally hate to see it . When people pollute the ocean, we are all affected. #savethereef "

"Enjoy your swimming!" another said. "That is raw sewage being dumped in to Acapulco Bay. Sadly, this happens all too often."

But, according to the New York Post, the Mexican state of Guerrero denied on Facebook that the water was part of the drainage system or a rupture of a sewage tank.

The Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources is investigating the spill, according to Reuters.

Meanwhile a petition has been started which calls for the banning of dumping sewage onto beaches.

The campaign reads: "I am going to cut right to the point, I care not only because this is a tourist attraction, it is also a place where local residents can come whenever they please.

"They can have a relaxing day at the beach, hangout with their families, or even have some alone time with their significant others.

"The thing is they cannot do that when there is raw sewage contaminating the bay.

"The smell, the feeling of that touching your bare skin doesn’t that sound disgusting.

"How would you feel if your local body of water was contained with human feces? I bet you would be very upset and disgusted!

"We most definitely cannot forget about the innocent animals being killed by this. There is only one way to stop this, make it illegal! If we can get this petition filled, we can make it stop."
