The director of Black Panther, Ryan Coogler, was arrested after a major mixup in which he was mistaken as a bank robber.
The 35-year-old was briefly arrested by police after trying to take $12,000 (€10,863) out of his own account in January.
The bank teller reportedly told her boss she suspected an attempted robbery was about to take place after she misinterpreted the situation at the Atlanta bank.
Mr Coogler told TMZ the "situation should never have happened".
He added that Bank of America has since "worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on".
According to a police report seen by TMZ, Mr Coogler was wearing a Covid face mask, sunglasses and a hat at the time of the incident and handed the teller a withdrawal slip with a note stating he wanted to take out $12,000 from his account.
The note also asked for the money to be counted somewhere else, saying, "I'd like to be discreet".
He also showed identification.
The New York Times reported that Mr Coogler had told police he was paying for a medical assistant who worked for his family and sought discretion as he had safety concerns due to the cash amount he requested.
The teller said she was pregnant and was worried about her safety at the time.
As the withdrawal was for a sum over $10,000, it automatically triggered a notification, which then prompted the teller to alert her boss that she suspected a robbery. The police were then called.
The director, who is currently working on the sequel of the hit superhero film Black Panther, was briefly handcuffed before proving his identity and was released.
A Bank of America spokesperson told US magazine Variety : "We deeply regret that this incident occurred. It never should have happened and we have apologised to Mr Coogler."
