Black Mirror fans say Mazey Day episode is 'worst ever' as new series lands on Netflix

While many Black Mirror viewers have rated the latest series as "amazing", others have admitted to feeling "traumatised" and "mentally disturbed" after watching the sixth series of the hit Netflix sci-fi show, which came out last week. However, not all have been as enthusiastic as some say one of the new episodes is actually 'one of the worst ever'.

It can be pretty rare to see fans disappointed by the popular dystopian-themed show due to the sheer amount of praise and views it has gotten over the years. But one particular episode out of all the new five instalments available on Netflix has left some underwhelmed.

'Mazey Day' is the fourth episode in series six that's seen some people post lacklustre reviews on social media. The synopsis for it reads: "A troubled starlet is dogged by invasive paparazzi while dealing with the consequences of a hit-and-run incident."

In the 40 minute-long episode, viewers watch as paparazzi photographer Bo (played by Joker's Zazie Beetz) attempts to take a snapshot of actress Mazey Day (played by Clara Rugaard) as she goes into hiding after having a 'melt-down' following a hit-and-run incident.

Bo later discovers Mazey is spending time at a remote rehab centre and manages to sneak into the clinic in hopes of catching a snapshot of the celebrity. Bo heads into a room to find Mazey chained to a bed because she was bitten by a werewolf and is hiding out to prevent herself from hurting others as she transforms into a beast herself.

Although the episode could arguably be attempting to highlight the issue of celebrity privacy and how far some paparazzi would go to get a picture, many viewers were not impressed by the storyline. Texrence tweeted: "Mazey Day down there as one of the worst black mirror episodes ever."

ArmijoEmme replied: "It was just something we’ve all seen before you know." Marlasversion added: "That was so bad. I was patient with how slow the pace was, expecting something to happen eventually but then it just turns out to be so disappointing."

LOSINGNIAH put: "Idk they kinda had me …then the whole werewolf thing happened and it was just like wtf." Shawn99395851 typed: "It's all about the paparazzi, it was good but then comes the wolf LIKE LFMKAOSOODISOAOO WHAT THE F*** IS HAPPENING."

PhillipLikesTV penned: "The only good part is it shows how the paparazzi are obsessed with getting the shot. Other than that. No. I thought they were going to do something like the Ashley O episode where we find out she’s being used for money. But a werewolf? Nah."

However, not everyone was in agreement. Scorpiobaddie11 wrote: "What??? I literally just finished and I like it." GeeknikJT echoed: "I kinda liked the twist at the end." Bella_PixieKat chimed: "That was my favourite."

On Rotten Tomatoes, Mazey Day has a rating of 50 per cent on its Tomatometer. In comparison, 'Beyond The Sea', the third episode in series six has a whopping 100 per cent rating.
