Black Friday Live: The best deals as we find them

A selection of the Black Friday deals featured on cyclingnews.

Black Friday is technically over, but the deals are still largely available, and experience tells us a few more will pop up over the weekend and into Cyber Monday. We'll be with you all weekend, and we're regularly unearthing new deals from retailers big and small. As soon as we find them, we'll drop them into the live feed at the bottom of this page.

As ever, the usual suspects are more or less all present, and we've found biggest- or first-ever discounts on AirPods, Apple Watches, Garmin smartwatches, Wahoo bike computers and many more.

Our main Black Friday Bike Deals hub has the best savings from each category compiled in one place, but this live blog is the place to be for the real cutting edge stuff, including the more boutique brands, and if you're here, you'll be the first to see our deeper dives where we spotlight particular products, deals, or retailers that we really rate.

If you're just waking up then get scrolling, we've been compiling all the latest finds for 24 hours now, and there's no sign of us stopping yet.

It's been a long time coming this year, but Black Friday proper is finally here. Here in the Cyclingnews Tech Team we're going to be spending the next four days trying to help you make the best use of the sales so you don't waste your money on any old nonsense.

For now, Will Jones is in charge of the Live feed. Sit back, relax, get a coffee, and keep checking in to get the best deals as and when we find them.

The best place to start is going to be our Black Friday Bike Deals hub, which houses everything we've found so far and links to all of our curated mini-hubs.

It can be easy to get overwhelmed with all the Black Friday content. Endless lists from myriad sites claiming to be the oracle on all sorts of things. Just so you can be sure this isn't some AI bot churning out post after post to make Daddy Bezossome more money, here we are, hard at work. Me in the bandana, Tom in the middle, and our Associate Editor, Josh, at the end keeping us both in line and making sure I don't go too rogue with memes. Don't ask me who the random bloke in the background is, though; I have no Idea.

First and foremost we are all cyclists, and the stuff we recommend over Black Friday are all products that we rate, have tested, and know to be a good deal. I'm not sure we'll look this fresh by Monday evening, but the office has enough Red Bull to keep even the most sleepy of the seven dwarves absolutely wired for a week.

The first significant deal to drop today is from Wiggle. It's had a really trying month with financial difficulties and an extremely early sale event, but has also offered up some of the best deals.

Its outlet now has an extra 10% off everything with the code OUTLET10. This doesn't apply to products on the main site however. Luckily for you lovely people I've already hand picked 18 deals from the Wiggle sale that I really rate, including my favourite cycling glasses of all time, my daily helmet, our top rated pair of cycling shoes, and even the saddle I fit to all of my test bikes.

We spend a great deal of time in our day to day jobs working out what products are the best on the market in their respective spaces. This takes into account performance, but also price. Black Friday often upsets this apple cart with price changes all over the place, though.

Normally I rate the Albion Zoa Rain Shell as the best waterproof cycling jacket (having tested an absolute tonne of them over several winters), but with the Rapha sale offering 25% off everything I now think its incredible Explore Gore-Tex Jacket is the best that money can buy, and if you're in the market for either a cycling waterproof or a hiking jacket it's an absolutely stellar buy.

I've outlined why I rate it so much, especially at its new discounted price, in a spotlight post:

Black Friday often brings some pseudo-discounts. Brands and sites will sometimes sneakily increase their prices on some products only to reduce them back to what they were earlier in the year, but now with the appearance of a good deal.

We've got ways and means of checking the price history on certain sites, like CamelCamelCamel (no, really, that's what it's called!). This means you can be sure that when we showcase a deal it really is just that, and that it's actually a good time to buy.

With the above in mind, we've found that the Apple AirPods Pro 2 are now at a lowest-ever price, so it's as good a time as there has ever been to make the leap. We will let you make your own mind up about riding while listening to music, but whatever you feel on that subject these are undoubtedly a good deal.

If you're not an Apple fan, or don't want to splurge quite so much cash on a set of headphones then our roundup of all the best Black Friday headphone deals has a tonne of alternatives for all budgets.

Sure, you can pick up a bike, a new winter jacket, maybe some overshoes... but Annemiek Van Vleuten's bloodied Tour of Flanders Skinsuit might be a strong contender for the wildest Black Friday deal we've ever seen, thanks to a well timed charity auction.

🚨 CHEAPEST EVER ZWIFT SETUP 🚨

Personally, I can't stand the thought of riding indoors. I'd honestly rather head out in the rain, get filthy, and feel the elements on my face and likely ingest some effluent from agricultural runoff.

If you are Zwift-curious though, and are starting from scratch, I think I've created the cheapest Zwift setup ever! It centres around an insane 85% off a dumb Lifeline TT-01 trainer, and some heavily reduced sensors.

The short story is you can get going on Zwift for under £60 in the UK, and $130 in the USA. It's not going to match the real-world feel of even a budget smart trainer, but it's a super affordable way to get going, and if you find out that like me you'd rather head outside you've not wasted so much cash.

My entire post-ride routine is on sale for Black Friday

I'm no spring chicken... I'm in my 30's, my knees are made of glass, my lower back is crumbling, and my diet is questionable at best. So I don't totally fall apart at the seams I have a pretty regimented post-ride routine, and by chance everything I use after every ride is on offer.

Everything, from my post-ride shower gel, through the stretching routine, to the protein shake and associated blending technology. If you too are fragile, some of these may be of some help, and they're all pretty cheap too.

NEW DEALS ADDED TO RAPHA ARCHIVE

In the lead up to the Black Friday weekend I noticed that Rapha had switched a load of products in its archive off. My suspicion that these would then be re-added as part of a weekend dump of new products.

I'm dead smug now because I've been proved right - Rapha has just switched a load of these products back on. You can get 25% off everything with code EXTRA25 or SAVE25, even in the archive.

The Rapha site does say you can now get 50% off products with code BF2023, but we've not found a way to make this work yet and it seems to be just another 25% off code.

Buy it for life cycling tech - The antidote to Black Friday

What with strikes at Amazon in the news, it's entirely possible that you don't want to support giant corporations over the festival of capitalism. If that sounds like you then I've put together an antidote to Black Friday in the form of a list of 'buy it for life' cycling tech.

It's full of clothing, componentry, and accessories that will stand the test of time and may very well outlive you and I. There are some things within it that are also on sale for Black Friday, and it would be remiss not to point those deals out, but that's not the point of this article. I value durable products; things that are repairable and last a long time are a joy to live with and better for the planet too.

My favourite ever cycling glasses are on sale!

It's no secret here in the Tech Team that my favourite thing to test is sunglasses. I've got well over 40 pairs, and I've got a few that I truly love, but my absolute favourites ate the Oakley Encoder with Prizm Road lenses.

As with many products that I really love, they don't necessarily do one thing the best, but do most things really well. The standout is the lenses though; frameless, contrasty, and good enough to use in low light and blazing sunshine. Honestly, I think this might be my pick of all the deals, but I don't want to shoot my shot quite so soon in case something else comes on sale and I look a fool.

In any case, this is definitely not one to hang around on - the deal is part of Wiggle's expansive Black Friday sale and a handful of the Encoder variants are already sold out.

For ease, here's the whole Encoder range that's on offer at the moment.

Taking an actual camera out with you while riding is a bit more effective than even the most capable phone (Image credit: Will Jones)

Here's something a little out of the ordinary for those of you with a photographic streak...

The camera that I take with me while riding (see above), and comes with me on every work assignment, is on offer for Black Friday. I'd been after a new camera for a while, and was turned onto the Sony RX100 series by Instagram pal and cargo bike extraordinaire Eric Binggeser, aka truemarmalade

Why do I love this camera so much? Here's why:

- It's smaller than my phone
- It fits into a jersey pocket
- It shoots Raw, so I can edit the images properly
- The autofocus is fast
- The screen flips over for self-shooting
- It has a viewfinder

To be honest though, it's easier to just show you what it can shoot:

Wizard Works bags and boutique accessories on sale!

Much as Black Friday is dominated by big brands, this doesn't mean that smaller brands aren't also worth shouting about.

Wizard Works are a brand I've been a big fan of for years, not just because its bags are great, but also because Harry and Ve, the brands co-owners, are both just lovely people.

I've been using a Lil' Presto bar bag and a Teeny Houdini saddle bag for years now and they're both great, and both are on sale along with some great boutique accessories - I particularly recommend the Safety Pizza if you want to inject a bit of fun into your ride. It comes as a plain slice and you can apply the toppings yourself!

If you're in search of every scrap of an advantage against the clock then Wattshop has 20% off everything with code BLACKFRIDAY20. It's niche stuff, but given the majority of it is crazy expensive then a 20% discount actually represents a sizeable wedge of cash if you're in the market.

I'm off for lunch for a sec, friends. Got to keep my strength up x

I'm back, and digesting a large burger...

Gosh I'm full...Maybe a giant burger and chips at 3pm on a Friday wasn't the best idea. Carb coma incoming...

Anyway, here's another deal worth shouting about from our man in the States, Josh Ross. He never rides without a Garmin Varia rear radar, and it's on offer at the moment.

Basically, instead of a rear light, you clip this on your seatpost or beneath your saddle and it syncs up with a compatible Garmin bike computer or your phone to warn of incoming vehicles from behind, and adjusts the integrated rear light accordingly.

I never ride without my Garmin Varia light with radar and now it’s on sale for Black Friday

My colleague Tom, before embarking on a glittering career is bicycle journalism, was a professional bike mechanic for years and years. This means you can trust his judgement when it comes to deals on tools. If you want to stock your home toolbox up he's rounded up his best tool deals this Black Friday.

Tom's Top Ten Tool Deals

If you talk to anyone who knows bike tools, like I just have with Tom, ex bike mechanic and now professional person sitting next to me, you'll quickly find out that Abbey Tools are revered, and are rarely ever on sale.

They're some of the best premium tools on the market, and are only ever on sale once a year for Black Friday.

This year it's 15% off everything site-wide in the USA, and thanks to Saddleback these savings can be had in the UK too.

Absolutely nothing fishy about someone with the username "100climbs" suggesting that you buy something from 100climbs.com?

Another smaller brand making bomber gear is Mission Workshop. It's offering 20% off everything with the code BF23 - My top pick would be the Signal Pant; incredibly sturdy, well made and perfect for everyday use when you get everywhere by bike.

My colleague Josh also rates its Rhake backpack as the best he'd ever used, and I'm inclined to agree with him, having one of my own.

Honestly, the number of emails I've had today with details of yet another Black Friday deal... I hope y'all appreciate me sorting the wheat from the chaff for you x

It's not just us steering the good ship HMS Black Friday Deals. Our colleagues over at Cycling Weekly have their own live blog, but I guarantee you that it's not as fun as this one.

Want to descend like Tom Pidcock? Well, his tyres are on sale for the Black Friday weekend! I mean, it's not going to give you any more skill, but having decent tyres is absolutely the best upgrade you can make to a bike in terms of bang for your buck, and the Continental GP5000 S TR is one of, if not the absolute best road tyre on the market today.

🚨 🚨 STOP THE PRESSES - THESE ARE THE BEST BIKE DEALS OF THE YEAR 🚨 🚨

Having tested the Vitus Venon Evo in both the gravel spec and the all-road spec this year I think, now that they're on sale, they may be the best bike deal of the year. Wiggly has slashed the prices of a load of Vitus bikes and I've picked out the best of the bunch.

These really aren't going to hang around, with many others already out of stock, so strike while the iron is hot.

These Black Friday Vitus deals are the best bike deals I've seen all year, and they're selling fast!

There are crates of beer in the office now... I think it's time!

Heads up, REI has a Rapha sale almost as good as the Rapha sale.

REI Rapha Sale

There's plenty of apparel on offer across road, gravel and MTB, with many things up to 50% off

Right folks, I'm going to sign off for the day and hand over to Josh who is currently feeding his two lovely dogs. I'm going to go home, get my feet up, have a bang average oven pizza and a beer, and come back tomorrow to help y'all find even more deals.

Ciao xxx

HELLO

Josh here.

The dogs are fed, as am I, and it's time... to face... the music! (said in the voice of Peter Dickson on the X Factor)

Literally though, I'm currently wrapping up a guide from Tom to the best headphones deals and it's full of seriously decent deals. Here are a couple:

And there it goes 🚀

Check out our roundup of Black Friday headphones deals now.

We tend to prefer to shout out brand roundups (like this Garmin Black Friday hub) or categories of deals (such as the headphones hub we just posted, or this Black Friday bike helmets roundup) when we're collating deals, because we find that's most useful to our audience. But sometimes, when we find ourselves time and time again returning to the same retailer because it always has a great price, it's worth giving credit where it's due and shouting about a retailer.

In this case, it's Competitive Cyclist, whose Black Friday sale is offering huge discounts across the board, with key brands such as Specialized, Cervelo, Assos and Shimano getting huge savings.

Check out our roundup here

And here are a couple of our top-pick deals:

Which bike computer should you buy?

With all the deals going on, it can be tough to navigate the various brands, their model ranges, their specs, and then compare that against the rapidly changing price landscape.

Our bike computer expert Josh (not me, the other Josh) has written a three-way head versus, pitting Garmin against Wahoo against Hammerhead to see which he thinks is the best buy right now, based on their current deal prices.

Check that out here

It's 11pm here at CN HQ, and as I've learned in my five years covering Black Friday, it's a marathon, not a sprint.

Therefore, I'm going to get myself home for a well earned bowl of nighttime cereal and some beauty sleep. It'll be me again in the morning for even more of the fun stuff!

Peace out ♥❤

We go again!
