A golf shoe is one of the most under-appreciated parts of your golf equipment, with your feet the only part of your body that keep in contact with the ground throughout your round. Therefore, it is crucial you find a pair that aren't just comfortable, but also provide grip and look good.
With Black Friday beginning on the 29th November, we've already found plenty of great offers on some of the best golf shoes from big brands like FootJoy, Nike, adidas and more. Along with the premium brands, some of the best deals feature limited edition shoes that have been released throughout the year, with the best spikeless golf shoes and best spiked golf shoes featuring throughout.
Although we are hitting winter time in the Northern Hemisphere, you can still purchase spikeless models in time for spring and summer, or perhaps you are off on a winter golf break soon. How to choose new golf shoes
There are a number of factors to consider when picking out your next pair of golf shoes so, to help you narrow down your search and inform your buying decision, below we have put together some key points.
Spiked or spikeless?
The best golf shoes above are split into spiked (or cleated) and spikeless designs and there are pros and cons of each. Spiked golf shoes offer better grip and stability, but don't sit as low to the ground as spikeless models. Spikeless golf shoes offer off-course versatility and are perfect for driving in the car to the golf course, playing a round, then driving home again, this is because they are usually light and comfortable, but most won't offer as much traction as a spiked shoe.
Waterproofing
If you live somewhere that gets a lot of rain then a waterproof shoe is a must. The best designs will keep your feet bone dry however if you play golf in glorious sunshine most of the time, then you may view other factors as more significant.
Many players choose to have one pair for winter and another, lighter pair for summer to keep them fresh and suit different requirements.
Getting the right fit
When picking out golf shoes getting the right fit is important because otherwise, blisters can build up. Or your feet may slide around inside, which limits your stability.
When trying a pair on for the first time, listen for the 'whoosh' sound when you slide your feet in - that's the sound of all the air leaving the shoe to confirm it is the correct size, but do a walking test to be sure. They shouldn't pinch anywhere, nor should your feet be moving around inside.
When it comes to the right fit it is also worth considering different laces. Normal laces are good for most but for some golfers, BOA-laced shoes provide more convenient fastening and shouldn’t loosen during the course of a round, but are usually a tad more expensive.
Styling
Thankfully modern golf shoe design has seen many brands not just create traditional, classic-looking shoes, but also modern styles that can be used off the golf course too. If the latter is what you are after, check out our guides on the best golf sneakers, or best casual golf shoes. Overall it is important to think about what your shoes look like and what style suits you. Whatever you like or dislike, there is something for everyone these days.
Budget
Of course we finish with budget. There are shoes at lots of different price points at the moment so we would always recommend working out how much you are willing to spend on a golf shoe. Additionally make sure you stay up to date with deals and retailer sales too because you might be able to find the shoe you want for less. Acknowledging that, bookmark this page because we will update it regularly with all the best shoe deals leading up to Black Friday and on the day itself. When Is Black Friday?
Black Friday gets, officially, underway on Friday 29th November. However, companies have already started introducing offers to the market, with lots of golf gear available at reduced rates. After Black Friday, there's Cyber Monday on the 2nd December, making it a great time to purchase gifts for Christmas, or for yourself.
Where to get the best deals
In the US, some of the best golf retailers include PGA Tour Superstore, Rock Bottom Golf, Walmart and, of course, Amazon. In the UK, the best golf retailers include Scottsdale Golf, American Golf, Sports Direct and Amazon. Amazon can be tricky to navigate (check out our best Black Friday Amazon golf deals) but they're a fantastic retailer for golf watches, lasers and balls in particular.
Other retailers to keep an eye on are the brands themselves so Nike, adidas, Puma and Under Armour.
