BATHINDA: Farmer union BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) on Thursday held a protest here against the Russian invasion of Ukraine, calling it “an attack on humanity” and “responsible for deaths and displacement”. The union also accused the central government of failing to mount a timely rescue of Indian students stuck in Ukraine and prolonging their ordeal.
BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) vice-president Jhanda Singh Jethuke said it was a purposeless war to show Russia’s might at the cost of thousands of lives and the world should force Russian president Vladimir Putin to stop it. He also asked the Indian government to be fast in pulling out Indian students out of the warzone so as to avoid any more casualties.
Meanwhile, environmental organisation Fridays for Future also held a series of protests in more than 60 cities across the world, where they called for hitting Russia’s oil economy to stop it from attacking Ukraine.
It issued a statement, saying, “People of all ages, a vast majority of them students, took to the streets in many countries to ask for decisive action against Russian brutality and unequal warfare. Last Thursday shook our country. This Thursday, we reply from our schools, universities, and workplaces.”
