BJP spokesperson, Dainik Bhaskar settle defamation suit

The Delhi High Court has been told that BJP spokesperson and senior advocate Nalin Kohli has reached a settlement with Dainik Bhaskar, days after he filed a defamation suit over a report in the Hindi daily, Bar and Bench reported.

Dainik Bhaskar published a series of reports alleging a fake news industry targeting politicians.

Kohli alleged that the media outfit had wrongly linked him to creation and distribution of fake news. The suit sought Rs 2 crore as damages, removal of the allegedly defamatory content, and to prevent its further publication. In the interim, Kohli sought takedown of the content.

Kohli’s lawyer informed Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora that under the agreement, Kohli’s name will be muted in the video and deleted from the article, Bar and Bench reported. It has also been agreed that a clarification will be put on the website and X. The corrigendum will be posted on the top news section for one week, as per the agreement.

On Wednesday, a judge had recused from the matter.
