Amid the Jharkhand assembly election, Another Election Show reached Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi to understand the political undercurrents in the state, especially decoding the BJP’s narrative of “Bangladeshi illegal immigrants”.
In his speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that illegal immigrants could also take away “your daughters”, and Home Minister Amit Shah has promised a special uniform code excluding the tribals.
Newslaundry’s Manisha Pande and Atul Chaurasia spoke to activist and author Vasavi Kiro and Jharkhand-based journalists Surendra Soren and Rajendra Tiwari on the BJP’s campaign narrative, fear over illegal immigrants, corporatisation, Adani, and the politics of the state.
Soren said the BJP is unable to find ground issues, while Tiwari said that if at all, the centre would be responsible for illegal immigrants as the state has no international borders. Kiro said if the saffron party is concerned about indigenous people, a law should be made for the five lakh women working as house help in Delhi.
