The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved a significant breakthrough in the southern state of Kerala by securing its first-ever seat in the region. This unexpected victory came as BJP candidate Suresh Gopi emerged triumphant in the constituency of Thrissur, garnering an impressive 412,338 votes.
Notably, this win marks a departure from the party's traditional stronghold in the northern regions of India. The actor-turned-politician's success dealt a blow to the incumbent T. N. Prathapan of the Congress party and V.S. Sunil Kumar of the Communist Party of India, who secured 337,652 votes and trailed behind Gopi in the election results.
