Björk to headline Bluedot 2022 with the Hallé as festival returns to Jodrell Bank

Björk is to headline the 2022 Bluedot festival as it makes its return to Jodrell Bank this summer.

The Icelandic singer will close the festival, taking place from July 21 to 24, and will perform with the Hallé Orchestra.

Her performance will be accompanied by bespoke artwork projected onto the dish of the Lovell space telescope, the first time that the 76-metre-wide dish has been used for projections.

Also appearing this year will be Groove Armada, who will headline the Friday night as part of the group’s last ever tour together.

Saturday night will find Scots post-rock legends Mogwai in a co-headline slot with Metronomy, while Mercury-nominated Hanna Peel and Paraorchestra will playing the opening Thursday night show.

Also on the bill are Spiritualized, Yard Act, Squarepusher, A Certain Ration, Kelly Lee Owens, India Jordan, A Guy Called Gerald, Anna Meredith, Sofia Kourtesis, Manara, Jane Weaver and Working Men's Club

The festival’s director Ben Robinson said: “After two years away we are thrilled to be able to return with such a unique and diverse line up to the iconic Jodrell Bank for the fifth instalment of bluedot.

“We can’t wait for people to join us beneath the Lovell Telescope in July to experience four days of cosmic adventures which will close with a very special orchestral performance from Björk and The Hallé.”

As ever, there will be a robust science programme too, including talks from Radio 4’s The Life Scientific Professor Jim Al-Khalili, British historian and filmmaker David Olusoga, leading space scientist Monica Grady, and astrophysicist and host of BBC’s The Sky at Night Chris Lintott.

Comedy will come from Stewart Lee, who will present his recent documentary King Rocker, along with Adam Buxton, who will perform his show Bug.

Stand-up performances will come from Desiree Burch, Olga Koch, Lolly Adefope, Cosmic Shambles creator Robin Ince, Rob Rouse and Ahir Shah, plus live podcasts from The New Scientist and the bluedot podcast with Chris Hawkins.

This year’s event will be the fifth Bluedot, with the likes of The Chemical Brothers, The Flaming Lips, Pixies, New Order and Kraftwerk having headlined previous events.
