'Bizarre' Clement comments blasted as Rangers 'wheels have come off', says Stubbs

Philippe Clement has been questioned over his "bizarre" Rangers press conferences after the "wheels came off" this season.

The Belgian manager has come under scrutiny from former Hibs boss  Alan Stubbs who suggested there are legitimate questions to be asked over Rangers' progress.

Clement arrived at Ibrox with Rangers seven points adrift in the title race. Despite narrowing the gap and even overtaking Celtic, the club could still end the season seven points behind.

Celtic sealed the title with a thumping win over Kilmarnock, and Stubbs has claimed Clement will be under pressure from the very start of next season should he fail to lift the Scottish Cup.

Speaking to safestbettingsites.co.uk, Stubbs said: "Realistically, the wheels have come off towards the end of the season for Rangers. He has to answer the question of why that is.

"If Clement loses the cup final, he will be under pressure from the very start of next season.

"He did a decent job in terms of turning Rangers around from where they were when he arrived, but when you reflect on it at the end of the season, they could be worse off points-wise from where they were when he took over.

"They were seven behind when he came in. Then they went ahead but potentially they could be back to seven or so behind at the end of the season after playing Hearts at Tynecastle while Celtic entertain St Mirren. So, the question is, has he really done a good job?"

Stubbs then went on to claim Clement has taken criticism personally as the former Celtic centre-back blasted the Ibrox manager for his handling in press conferences.

He commented: "I also think some of his press conferences have been a bit bizarre in terms of how he's tried to reflect on things.

"One thing you cannot do as a Celtic or Rangers manager is to take personally the criticism that comes your way and react to it - and it looks as though that is what he has done at times.

"Before the Dundee game, he hadn't won in something like four or five games, which for Rangers is just unacceptable."
