Biscuit-loving mum sheds two stone after life-threatening health scare

When doctors told Sue Naughton she was on the verge of developing diabetes, she thought the solution was to stop eating biscuits.

But the fix was much more drastic than that, meaning the 55-year-old would need to take up exercising. Up for the challenge, mum Sue joined a gym and developed a fitness regime – going on to lose an impressive two stone.

When Sue signed up to Absolute Body Solutions, which has a gym in Manchester city centre, her average blood glucose readings were as high as 97. Once she started her training programme, her levels got down to 41, meaning she has almost halved her readings since she started.

“It sounds dramatic, but it really has changed my life,” she said. “When my doctor saw my new levels, she was gobsmacked.

“I couldn’t have done it without them. I have such a good laugh with everyone at the gym and I consider them as friends now. We have fun, we train hard and the atmosphere is really good and I feel really comfortable there.”

Sue was also able to manage her sleep and stress levels following routine exercise. “(The gym) is not intimidating at all, it’s just great,” she added. The whole team just cheer you on.”

Sue trained with her daughter Gemma, who achieved her own life-altering results. After a year, her daughter dropped 100lbs and went from a size 26 to a size 12.

On training with her daughter Sue said: “When I started training with my daughter together with Connor, I didn’t see how it could work when we both had different goals, but it did.

“In fact, it was more fun, and we pushed each other further and it was such a motivation both in training and in our nutrition doing it together and competing against each other really worked too and kept us focused.”

Sue, from Newton, Tameside, plans to keep pushing herself to see what more she can achieve. Absolute Body Solutions owner, Connor O’Brien, said: “What Sue has achieved here with Connor is nothing short of amazing. Sue has given everything to her training with us.

“She has been determined from day one to achieve the very best results she could, and she has achieved this and more. Connor has done incredibly well at managing her training and nutrition and these results are fantastic. Congratulations Sue.”
