Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday announced that the birthday of Muruga Mutt seer Shivamurthi Muruga Sharana would be observed as “Samaanata Dina” (equality day) to highlight the seer’s struggle to build a society of equal opportunities for all.
He was addressing a programme titled “Samaanata Dina” to mark the birthday of the seer in Bengaluru.
He said it was appropriate on the part of the followers of the seer to observe his birthday as “Samaanata Dina” as he had strived to sow rationalist ideals and principles propagated by 12th Century social reformer Basaveshwara.
Mr. Bommai said a few persons in the world had brought about social change in society through their sacrifices and selfless efforts, including Buddha, Basaveshwara, Allama Prabhu, Jesus Christ, Prophet Mohammed, and Paigambar Mahavira.
