Birmingham shooting: Man shot dead by armed police during intelligence-led operation

A man has been shot dead by armed police in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police said it happened in an "intelligence-led operation" on Friday.

The force said in a statement: "A warrant was executed as part of an intelligence-led operation in Wheeleys Lane in Lee Bank just before 5am today.

"A man, in his 50s, was shot and died a short time later at the scene.

"The area is currently cordoned off.

"Officers’ body worn video has been downloaded."

The shooting has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
