Dog owners are being advised to keep their pets on a lead after a report of bird flu at Blaise Castle. A sign has been spotted saying the virus has been detected and lists several precautions for people to take.
People are urged to keep to footpaths, keep their dogs on leads and not to feed wild waterfowl or handle dead or sick wild birds. Advice also urges people not to touch wild bird feathers or surfaces contaminated with wild bird droppings.
If you keep poultry or other birds you are advised to wash your hands and clean and disinfect your footwear before tending to your birds. People are also being asked to report dead waterfowl and wild birds to Defra's GB helpline on 03459 335577.

Although bird flu Type A viruses usually do not infect people, there have been some rare cases of human infection with these viruses. Illness in humans from bird flu virus infections have ranged in severity from no symptoms or mild illness to severe disease that resulted in death.
