A local chippy has seen massive Jubilee crowds turn out during the first two days of the Bank Holiday weekend after it went viral on TikTok.
Binley Mega Chippy in Coventry saw its popularity soar after a catchy tune about it went viral on the social media platform.
The business is now more popular than ever, and today saw massive crowds turn out to celebrate the Jubilee at the takeaway.
Hundreds turned up and queued with some travelling far from across the country, Coventry Live reported.
The car park outside the store was packed today as fans arrived from far and wide to taste what Binley Mega Chippy has to offer.
The West Midlands chip shop has become an unlikely tourist hotspot four thousands, some having come from across the world, since it went viral online.
Videos and memes of the chippy garnered millions of views online and left the chip shop with queues out the door and down the car park for the last few days.
Today was no different as large numbers of Brits queued up to enjoy the second day of their jubilee weekend with a chippy.
Fencer Josh Perks, 18, made an eight hour round trip from his home in Portsmouth with two pals after seeing the takeaway trending on TikTok.
He said: "We just thought it would be a laugh, we wanted to see what the fuss was about. It was great fun, there was a bit of a party atmosphere going on. I don't think the staff there can get their heads around what is really going on."
Student Ben Bradley, 19, of Coventry, added: "I met a bloke who had come over from France.
“Who comes from France to Coventry? Some lads from Scotland came too. It's bonkers but the most British thing ever.
"It certainly shows the power of social media. It's like a festival around here. It has to be the most famous destination in Coventry right now and it's just our local chip shop."
Shop owner Kamal Gandhi has said he has “no idea” why the shop was catapulted to fame, but claimed it could be because of his mother-in-law’s prayers.
Kamal said: “No idea. It might be God. I think actually it is a gift from my mother-in-law, when I bought the shop she prayed that it would be successful.”
Kamal, 70, doesn’t even know who’s behind the viral song in honour of his chippy, and added: “I have no idea who made it, or who made the song. I actually have no idea.”
Gandhi thinks that the novelty might wear off, but at the moment they’re still being kept busy by increasing numbers of customers.
