Binley Mega Chippy goes viral on TikTok again with unusual marriage proposal outside

A woman proposed to her girlfriend in front of a world famous UK chip shop.

A clip of the romantic moment at Binley Mega Chippy has gone viral on TikTok.

The Coventry takeaway is already a sensation on social media after youngsters started filming themselves visiting the chippy.

In the clips, TikTok users sample the eatery's delicious grub while chanting "Binley Mega Chippy", CoventryLive reports.

One user, candygofficial90, has now popped the question to her girlfriend in front of the fish and chip shop.

The 15-second video shows candygofficial90 proposing in front of the shop, with the Bruno Mars song Just the Way You Are playing in the background.

The caption reads: “Travelled from Bexley Heath to ask her to marry me and she said........”

The clip doesn’t actually offer the answer. However, looking at the body language it’s clear she said yes.

The video has been liked and watched by more than 300,000 people, shared more than 16,000 times and attracted more than 18,500 comments.

Not surprisingly perhaps some of the comments wonder why Binley Mega Chippy was chosen as a place to ‘pop the question’.

One TikTok user said: “Some people propose in Paris, some people propose outside a chip shop.”

Another wrote: “I’d drive away crying … imagine proposing in front of a chip shop Byeee.”

A third person added: “You could’ve picked ANYWHERE, and you picked the car park of Binley mega chippy.”

However, some were impressed by the location.

One TikTok user said: “This is so sweet, genuinely.”

Another added: “Classic right outside binley chippy couldn’t get more English.”

It comes after the chip shop became a viral sensation on TikTok, drawing in customers from around the country.

Fencer Josh Perks, 18, made an eight hour round trip from his home in Portsmouth with two pals after seeing the takeaway trending on TikTok.

He said: "We just thought it would be a laugh, we wanted to see what the fuss was about. It was great fun, there was a bit of a party atmosphere going on.

"I don't think the staff there can get their heads around what is really going on."

Student Ben Bradley, 19, of Coventry, added: "I met a bloke who had come over from France. Who comes from France to Coventry? Some lads from Scotland came too. It's bonkers but the most British thing ever.

"It certainly shows the power of social media. It's like a festival around here. It has to be the most famous destination in Coventry right now and it's just our local chip shop."
