Bing Crosby's former California estate is for sale – its French chateau style is just as appealing as it was in the '60s

Bing Crosby.

Bing Crosby needs no introduction; a legendary actor and musician, the late performer was one of the biggest names in Old Hollywood, and as such, his estate was one to revere.

Bing's former home in Hillsborough, California, just outside of San Francisco, is on the market for $40,000,000. The storied property's history is just as rich as Bing's own – the sprawling estate was built in 1929 by San Francisco architects John Bakewell Jr. and Ernest Weihe, known for their work on San Francisco City Hall.

The French chateau-style residence spans 13,635 square feet, including 11 bedrooms, 10 full bathrooms and 5 half bathrooms. As you can imagine, the inside is just as fantastic as the exterior – let's take a look.

The Chateau-style architecture is on full display from the exterior, with curved archways and large windows decorating the breath-taking property. Bing Crosby bought this estate as a surprise for his wife, Kathryn. The couple then moved in December 1964 with their children.

The entryway is as regal as they come (hello, Castlecore), with a crystal chandelier, panelled walls, and twinning decorative tables and chairs accenting the area. A large rug adds some softness to the parquet wood floors.

Opulent and luxe, the dining room is perfectly primed for entertaining. Kathryn Crosby commissioned acclaimed San Francisco artist Al Proom to decorate the ornate dining walls, which as we can see, have been well preserved. A large chandelier contrasts the natural, wood floors, table, and chairs, in a move that feels aligned with the modern rustic trend.

The study is handsome as they come, with a wood mantel, a reclaimed wood desk, and plenty of shelves to house books.

The master bedroom takes advantage of wallspace with twin mirrors framing the luxurious bed. High ceilings allow for large windows, which are curtained in a cream fabric.

Another bedroom sees the fireplace as a fixture again, while a canopied bed gives the space a bohemian appearance. While the space is sparsely decorated otherwise, there is lots of room for the addition of a sofa or ottoman.

A lounge area features yet another fireplace, though this one is more contemporary with a black, marble facade. It perfectly matches a marbled coffee table, while brown tones are mixed in with (accidentally on-trend) mocha-colored paint and a wood ladder.

Finally, a pantry-style corner adjacent to the lounge features a small sink and shelves for glasses, making it the perfect area for games and entertaining.

Bing Crosby's former home is listed with Jennifer Gilson at Sotheby's.
