A busy street near the Scottish Parliament building has been sealed off after a bin lorry ploughed into the side of a block of flats in the capital.
Emergency services were called to Calton Road in Edinburgh at around 6.50am on Monday, August 15 after reports of a vehicle striking a block of residential flats.
Police and fire engines have been pictured at the scene as emergency services have sealed off the road. Police Scotland have confirmed that the driver of the lorry has been treated for minor injuries to his leg.
It is not believed that anyone else was injured in the incident. The exact nature of the crash is not yet known.
One eye witness said on Twitter: "Calton Road closed at Abbey Hill end due to bin truck accident. Lots of emergency services around that area."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 6.50am on Monday, 15 August, to a report of a bin lorry colliding with a block of flats on Calton Road, at the junction with Abbeyhill Crescent, Edinburgh. The lorry driver sustained a minor leg injury. No one else was injured.
“The road is currently closed while the building is assessed. Road users are advised to avoid the area.”
A Council spokesperson said: “We can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in an accident near Calton Road and Abbeyhill this morning.
"Thankfully no-one has been seriously injured and our teams are at the scene helping the emergency services with their enquiries.
"Our structural engineers are assessing any damage to the building and will make sure it is made safe before the area is reopened to the public.”
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
