Waste and recycling collection days across Leeds have been set for the Christmas and New Year period as crews deal with extra demand at their busiest time of year.
Household recycling centres in Leeds will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, meaning the council has changed the usual collection days in the city. This year's festive holidays also fall on a Sunday, creating a calendar headache.
But the amendments to timetables are not drastic with collections happening either a day or two days earlier than normal. To help ease any confusion, Leeds City Council will be posting posters and flyers with collection information to letterboxes in the city this week.

A spokesman for Leeds City Council said: "With over a thousand tonnes of extra black and green bin waste expected to be produced and over a million bins to be emptied across Leeds during the festive period, the council’s refuse service will be doing all it can to ensure bin collections continue to run smoothly. Collections will take place throughout the festive period, with the service only closing on Boxing Day this year, with Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve falling on a Sunday.
"Your bin day will be different in the week before Christmas this year, with collections taking place one or two days earlier this year, starting from Sunday 18 December, with normal collection days resuming from December 27. Leeds’ household recycling centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day but will otherwise be open and operating as normal."
