Billy Gilmour Scotland injury fears eased as Chelsea and Norwich hopeful his season isn't over

Billy Gilmour's injury may not be as bad as first feared with Norwich not giving up hope of using him in their final game of the season.

The Scotland star has struggled on loan at the Canaries who have dropped out of the Premier League with a whimper at the first time of asking.

But he remains a key player for Steve Clarke 's Scots, who face Ukraine in a huge World Cup playoff semi-final on 1 June.

Clarke is already sweating the fitness of Kieran Tierney and Nathan Patterson and Gilmour' s name was added to the pile earlier on Friday when club manager Dean Smith confirmed he was a doubt.

He had been sent back to Chelsea for scans and many assumed that meant his season was over ahead of Sunday's final day.

But the PA Sports Agency now say he could be back to face Spurs on Sunday - leaving Scotland hopeful he will be fighting fit to face Ukraine in less than two weeks.

Addressing the issue Smith previously said: "Gilmour rolled his ankle and has gone back to Chelsea for an assessment today.

"We’ll wait and see if he gets back or not."

Gilmour has been a regular in the Norwich side under Smith but they have once again struggled to adapt to life back in the top flight.

He will return to Chelsea in the summer and hope to fight for his place in Thomas Tuchel's first team.
