Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has heaped praise onto Billy Gilmour as the Scotland start continues to show his 'quality' as he
The 21-year-old once again started for the Seagulls and played 75 minutes in his side's 1-0 win over Manchester United, thanks to Alexis Mac Allister's penalty kick, nine minutes into added time. The win over United comes less than two weeks after Erik ten Hag's side won on penalties in the FA Cup semi-final.
The Scotland international, who had been struggling for game time as of late, has now been handed back-to-back starts at a key time in the campaign with his side still well in the hunt for European football next season. The former Rangers youngster started the side's previous match where the thumped Wolverhampton Wanderers for six without a reply. His boss singled out the midfield duo of Gilmour and Moises Caicedo for their performance in the key clash at the Amex Stadium.
Speaking to the Brighton website post-match, De Zerbi said: "We have reached a level with the right players in the right positions and I didn’t want to change.
“Caicedo is a top, top player who can play anywhere and Billy Gilmour deserved to play after his performance against Wolverhampton, he was fantastic. They both showed their quality.”
The manager also reckoned the FA Cup semi-final should have been a win for them: "We deserved to win today and in the semi-final."
Brighton are now in sixth place and a point clear of Tottenham, who they also have two games in hand over, making Europa League football a real possibility for the club now.
