Billy Gilmour in Scotland vs Georgia eight word verdict as Tartan Army backing heavily praised

Billy Gilmour has hailed the 'unbelievable' Hampden atmosphere as part of his verdict on Scotland's win.

The Dark Blues midfielder put in a man of the match performance as Steve Clarke's men made it four wins from four at the start of the Euro 2024 qualifying section as the dreams of reaching Germany next summer start to become a reality. It's been an incredible start by the national team who backed up the stunning comeback win away at Norway to dump Georgia at a drenched Hampden.

The match was delayed for an extended period due to a huge downpour before kick-off as staff worked to clear the surface water off the Hampden turf. The match had started on time with Callum McGregor's strike after just six minutes the final act before both teams were asked to leave the park by the match officials.

The Tartan Army remained in full voice despite the waits with Scott McTominay rewarding their support with another goal two minutes into the second period as he took his own tally to five goals in four games in the qualifying process.

It means Scotland will head to Cyprus in September - the team they defeated on matchday one 3-0 - full of confidence as they bid to make it five from five and maintain their perfect record at the top of the group section.

Uploading a number of snaps from the match, Gilmour wrote on Instagram: "4/4! Another great night and unbelievable atmosphere at @hampdenpark."

Hailing the fans, boss Clarke said: "I have to mention the fans, they were magnificent. It would have been easy for them to get a little bit down, thinking about going home because the game could have been called off.

"They stayed and every time we went on to the pitch they cheered and got behind us. All the volunteers who got the brushes and the brooms to get the water off the pitch, you have to say thank you because eventually we came out with a massive three points, 12 points to lead the group is a fantastic start."
