Billy Gilmour in Liverpool transfer suggestion as Rangers academy product tipped for major move

Billy Gilmour has been tipped to make the jump to a club like Liverpool or Manchester City if the Rangers academy graduate can make a success of his latest move.

The midfielder has banked his boyhood club a seven-figure sell-on fee with his deadline day move from Chelsea to fellow Premier League club Brighton on a permanent basis. He left Rangers for London as a teenager but with chances limited under Thomas Tuchel, he's joined the forward-thinking Seagulls after a tough loan at Norwich City last term.

Former Scotland international Pat Nevin is one of the current national team star's biggest fans and reckons it's a great move for him. Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, Nevin said: "Billy Gilmour is at a crucial point in his career.

"The move to Brighton is brilliant. It's the right move. Chelsea won't regret selling him because that's not the way they think as a club.

"But they may want to buy him back again. Four or five years down the line, I won't be surprised if he's playing in the Manchester City, Liverpool or Chelsea midfield - he's that technically good."

It was a good weekend for the midfielder after sealing his next move, coming on as a late sub during a 5-2 Brighton win over Leicester City.
