Billy Gilmour could net Rangers a transfer windfall as £9million Chelsea exit is agreed with Brighton

Billy Gilmour is set to undergo a medical at Brighton before putting pen to paper in a permanent move from Chelsea.

The Premier League side have agreed a deal worth around £9million for the Scotland international. It comes after the midfielder was snubbed by Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel who told the 21-year-old to travel home from the club's pre-season tour of the US earlier this summer.

The Scot looked to have no future at all at the London club - despite the club exercising an option to extend his contract to the summer of 2023/24 - but has since appeared on the bench due to the lack of numbers in the squad. But now his move away from Stamford Bridge has all but been agreed with Brighton gaffer Graham Potter a fan of the former Rangers kid. And the move could see the Ibrox side cash in due to a sell-on clause included in the star's initial contract that saw him make the move to Chelsea, according to Football Scotland.

Rangers could earn more than £1million on the deal. The Scotsman left Govan five summers ago and following his 16th birthday, Gilmour officially become a Chelsea player in July 2017. He has only managed 22 outings since, completing a loan spell at Norwich City last term.

A number of sides have registered their interest in the midfielder throughout the summer. Gilmour himself said he is keen to make the move to the Seagulls.
