As the great purge of Buffalo starts to settle into reality, the effects of what the Bills have lost become increasingly clear. The releases of Jordan Poyer and Tre’Dar White leave holes needing to be filled by young talent. Yes, the Bills did sign former Rams safety Taylor Rapp to an extension but with Micah Hyde being an unrestricted free agent, the Bills DB room needs help instantly.
On the flip side of the ball, the Bills receiving corps is in dire need of help, as well. Gabe Davis is an unrestricted free agent and with the uncertainty of Stefon Diggs still lingering, perhaps the Bills might be in the market for a new wide receiver.
This is where the Rams come in. Despite having clear needs, the Rams also have the luxury of not having a gaping hole on their roster. As Buffalo sits at the back of the draft with the 28th overall pick, the top prospects needed to fill the Bills holes will most likely be gone by that point.
Buffalo doesn’t want to trade the house for a top pick but moving up could spell a fruitful decision for the franchise in peril. As the Rams sit at 19, according to various mock drafts, top corners and wide receivers will still be available once the Rams are up to pick. Perhaps a Kool-Aid McKinstry, Cooper DeJean, or Nate Wiggins could be the answer for Buffalo.
If the Bills were to pull the trigger on a trade, they would have to swap first-round picks with the Rams. In addition, the Bills would most likely have to send over a third- and fourth-round pick just to even begin discussions. Based on the 2022 NFL draft, Kansas City sent their 29th overall pick along with their 2022 third- and fourth-round picks to trade up with New England at 21. Kansas City would then select Trent McDuffie.
Now, that’s only moving up eight slots. The Bills would have to move up nine which could mean a first and a second for the Rams’ first-round pick or a first, third, fourth and perhaps an additional Day 3 pick to seal the deal.
Either way, the Rams are in the driver’s seat. If Buffalo feels desperate, Los Angeles could profit.
