In a recent incident that made headlines, billionaire John Paulson's girlfriend, Alina de Almeida, was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) after crashing her car into the yard of a house in Butler, NJ. The police report, obtained exclusively by Page Six, reveals details of the incident that occurred on March 13, 2018.
According to the report, de Almeida lost control of her BMW while attempting to make a right-hand turn. The crash caused severe damage to her vehicle. When the responding officer arrived at the scene, they detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from de Almeida. She admitted to having just come from Jigg's bar prior to the accident.
Matthew Peteroy, who was riding as a passenger in the car, claimed that de Almeida was driving him home from the bar where he worked. Concerned about her intoxicated state, the officer conducted multiple field sobriety tests, which indicated that de Almeida was impaired by alcohol over the legal limit. Consequently, she was arrested.
At the police station, an Alco-test revealed that de Almeida had a blood alcohol content of 0.16, which is double the legal limit. She was subsequently released into her father's custody and cited with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and having unclear plates. In the fall of 2018, de Almeida pleaded guilty, resulting in a seven-month suspension of her driver's license and a requirement to attend 12 hours of alcohol education.
Since this incident, de Almeida, who is now 35, appears to have turned her life around. As the founder of Effective Lifestyle, a wellness-focused brand, she provides tips on maintaining a healthy lifestyle without compromising social experiences. In an interview with Palm Beach magazine, de Almeida shared an example of how she navigates dining out without indulging in heavy foods.
Despite this incident in her past, de Almeida has found happiness in her relationship with John Paulson, a 68-year-old billionaire who has faced his own legal troubles. Paulson left his wife of 21 years to be with de Almeida in 2021. In a statement to Page Six in 2022, he expressed his contentment in their relationship and wished his ex-wife, Jenny, well in finding her own happiness.
It is worth noting that de Almeida did not provide any comment regarding the DUI incident when approached by Page Six.
