Billie Faiers' husband Greg Shepherd praised for speaking out over hair transplant after he realising he was 'going bald'

Reality star Greg Shepherd has been praised for speaking out after having a hair transplant. The star of Billie and Greg: The Family Diaries with his wife Billie and their children Nelly and Arthur underwent the treatment after becoming self conscious about his hairline.

Greg's surgery day with Dr Matee Ullah of the Salford-based KSL Clinic features in the new series currently being screened on ITVBe and Greg will be seen returning to see Dr Matee again for Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections to help promote growth.

Greg, who turned 37 last month, decided to have the treatment after shaving his head for charity. And he admitted he was feeling 'really nervous' and 'dreading the needles.'

He explained: “I recently had to shave my hair off for a charity event and realised that I was going bald. It took a lot longer to grow back on top and I looked at my father who is bald completely on top and thought 'I do not want to look like you dad' hence me coming to see Dr Matee to save me from that."

He added: “There was a little bit of pain at the beginning when they have to put the anaesthetic in but after that I did not feel a thing and it went really well. I don’t know what I was worried about to be honest."

Greg was supported throughout the process by former The Only Way Is Essex star Billie, 28, and he is delighted with his new look.

“Now I’ve got a full head of hair I could potentially wear it as a ponytail," he joked.

"No, I’m going to carry on styling it the way I was but I was having to cover up bits before and now I’m not going to have to."

Dr Matee, whose celeb clients also include Dancing On Ice winner Jake Quickenden, TOWIE's James Lock, Love Island's Jack Fincham and Dom Lever, pop star Gareth Gates and Katie Price, said: "Greg was really nervous during the day of the procedure. He’d shaved his hair to raise money for charity and it dawned on him it was thinning and receding more than he’d realised."

He added: "It was a very unique experience performing surgery with a film crew in the room. The day goes a lot slower as you have to stop start and wait for things to be in the right place and there’s an extra layer of care for the patient, the film crew and my whole medical team - but the film crew were all very understanding and helpful.

“The procedure itself went really well - he had a good donor area to take grafts from and he should expect a very good result. He had the procedure just over two months now.

"He came in recently for PRP (Platelet-rich plasma) which will also feature on the show later in the series and he can expect to see results around June/July, just in time for the holiday season.

"Billie also came for the initial consultation and supported him through the whole process. Everyone at the clinic is really excited to watch the show each week as it follows his hair transplant journey."

When Greg unveiled the results on his Instagram, saying '#newhairdontcare', the compliments came pouring in and he has been applauded for speaking out.

julieallman5807 told him: "I think its so great how you're sharing your hair experience and making it a lot less scary for other men to go get it done. Men don't talk about this enough on TV."

my_hillcrest_home said: "Good on you for speaking up. Whatever makes you happy and I think it looks fantastic."

And jennymcd10 said: "Well done Greg love how open and honest you are about it! It is a major thing that men don't talk about and can really help lots of people.

"Well done and no headers whilst it all settles down! You looked great anyway but glad it has been the right thing for you x"
