Billie Eilish ’s brother Finneas O'Connell has spoken out to defend her relationship with new boyfriend Jesse Rutherford.
The Bad Guy singer, 21, has come under fire for the 10-year age gap with 31-year-old Jesse.
And now her older brother Finneas, 25, has responded to a video made by a TikTok troll who criticised his sister’s relationship.
“Your sister’s dating a 31-year-old man and your music is s***ty,” the TikTok user wrote.
Finneas responded: “I want my sister to be happy and safe. “She is a 21-year-old adult perfectly entitled to make her own life decisions."
Billie and Jesse made their red carpet debut last month and have had to fight off criticism from some fans who have taken offence at their 10-year age gap.
Fans have had plenty to say about the new relationship, with some people unsure about the age difference.
"When I said I wanted a Billie and Jesse collab...this is NOT what I had in mind,” one person Tweeted. Another said: "When he was her age, she was nine."
A third fan claimed: "What could a 31-year-old man have in common with a 20-year-old girl?? The age gap weirds me out."
Coming to Billie's defence, one follower says she didn't know what all the fuss was about.
They said: "I don’t understand why everyone is so upset. I am 23 and I have dated men who are in their early 30’s. It is a preference."
Award-winning musician Billie admitted she tries to keep her romantic life out of the spotlight because the internet can be difficult over 'stuff like this'.
"Falling in love is hard for me. It's a spooky thing, love. It's really spooky," she admitted in an interview with Highsnobiety.
She went on to say that she is "stoked" about this point in her life, from recently finishing her Happier Than Ever tour, winning an Oscar for her James Bond ballad and her romance with Jesse.
"I could bawl my eyes out thinking about it," Billie added.
The Ocean Eyes hitmaker recently gushed over her boyfriend for the first time, saying he is the "hottest f**king f**ker alive".
When asked in an interview with Vanity Fair if she had a boyfriend, Billie smiled and replied: "Yeah I do, and it’s really cool and I’m really excited and I’m really happy about it.
"I managed to get my way to a point in my life my life to a point where I not only was known by a person that I thought was the hottest f**king f**ker alive, but I pulled his a**."
After confirming her new beau was Jesse, Billie added: "I’m really inspired by this person and you know he’s inspired by me, it’s really cool."
