Billie Eilish fans were thrown into a frenzy of excitement this week when she shock-dropped some new music prompting hopes a brand new album is on the immediate horizon.
But now the 20-year-old singer has dashed hopes that a full record is coming in the next few weeks – as she isn’t planning to release an album at all.
The star surprised fans on Thursday when she dropped her ‘Guitar Songs’ EP which included two brand new tracks – titled TV and The 30th.
The songs were co-written by the chart topping star’s long-term collaborator and brother Finneas O’Connell – but those hoping this was a precursor to a new album have now had their hopes dashed.
Speaking on Apple Music, Billie said: “We’re going to hopefully make another album in the next year. I mean, it’s crazy.
“I hate to say this because I know it’s a disappointment to people that think, ‘Oh my God, they’re making an album. It’s going to come out soon’. TV and The 30th are the only songs that we have.”
She explained further: “These songs are really current for me. They’re songs I want to have said right now.
“I was talking to Finneas and I was like, ‘You know what, man? I don’t want to wait until the next album cycle to put these songs on an album’.
“And then it’s like, ‘Wow, we have these two guitar songs that are two years old’.”
It has been almost a year since Billie’s last album, Happier Than Ever, was released – with the record topping the charts in the UK and USA.
She recently appeared on stage at Glastonbury festival where she wowed fans with a headlining set of all her biggest hits.
She also took a moment while on the stage to address the recent changes in law in the USA which saw abortion effectively outlawed in a number of States.
The change happened after the Supreme Court overturned the ruling of the landmark 1973 Roe v Wade case which had permitted an abortion to be legally performed.
Following the case’s overturning, women in the USA have now lost their rights to seek safe and legal abortions in a number of states.
As she introduced her song titled Your Power she said the song is about the concept of power – and drew a parallel with the Supreme Court ruling.
She said: “The song we’re about to do is I think one of the favourites that we’ve written and it’s about the concept of power and how we need to always remember how not to abuse it.
“And today is a really, really dark day for women in the US. I’m just going to say that as I cannot bear to think about it any longer in this moment.”
She later told the crowd: “Whatever is going on in your mind, anything that’s bothering you, wasting your time thinking about, something that you just can’t out of your head. I want you to have a f ** tantrum”.
The singer added: “I want everybody to feel loose and free and I don’t want you to give a f*** about anything else except this moment.”
