It appears Bill Belichick will not be on an NFL sideline for the 2024 season. Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn took the Washington Commanders head coaching job on Thursday afternoon, which was the last head coaching position up for grabs.
That means a season where Belichick isn’t on an NFL sideline, which hasn’t happened since 1975. Belichick and the New England Patriots organization agreed to mutually part ways on January 11. This ended Belichick’s 24-year tenure in New England.
It is pretty remarkable to think about where his coaching career started. He began as a special assistant for the former Baltimore Colts in 1975. He then worked his way up to a head coaching position with the Cleveland Browns in 1991 and spent time with the Denver Broncos and New York Giants in between. He made his first stop in New England in 1996 as the assistant head coach and defensive backs coach.
The Patriots made the ultimate trade in 2000, giving the New York Jets a first-round draft pick in exchange for the right to hire Belichick. The rest was literally history as he helped build one of the greatest dynasties in all of modern sports.

The landscape of the NFL is changing. One has to wonder if Belichick will find a head coaching job in 2025, or if he will officially retire.
