Ever since the Jets drafted Sam Darnold with the third overall pick back in 2018, the former USC quarterback has bounced around the league with limited success. That might have changed this season, though, with Darnold finally looking like a legitimate starting quarterback in Minnesota.
Everyone across the league should be surprised with Darnold’s resurgence, but if you ask Bill Belichick, the NFL world all expected this. Well, besides the Jets.
The former Patriots coach and six-time Super Bowl champ (as head coach) joined the Pat McAfee Show on Monday to discuss Darnold’s performance amid Minnesota’s 3-0 start to the season. And, of course, he managed to get a jab in about the Jets.
Bill Belichick talking about #Vikings QB Sam Darnold:
"Everybody has liked Darnold except the Jets."

“Everyone has liked Darnold except the Jets,” Belichick said.
He went on to say that Carolina really liked Darnold (despite letting him walk in free agency). He also mistakenly claimed that Darnold was with the Rams for a short time, and they really liked him. Darnold never played for the Rams. He was a backup in San Francisco before joining the Vikings this season.
So, yeah, that just isn’t true. But the swipe at the Jets was classic Belichick at work.
