New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick spoke to reporters Monday and once again faced an onslaught of questions regarding his future with the organization.
After a disappointing 4–13 season, the veteran coach bluntly addressed his standing with the team amid rumors and reports suggesting he could be on the way out.
“I’m under contact. I’m going to do what I always do, which is every day I come in, work as hard as I can to help the team in whatever way I can,” Belichick said at a news conference Monday morning. “So that’s what I’m going to continue to do. Today was kind of the wrap-up day for us with the players—we’ll have a meeting with them and then go from there.
“As far as any decisions or direction or anything like that for next year, it’s way too early for that,” he continued. “End of the year process, I don’t think will be fundamentally different from the standpoint of how it’s done. The decisions—that’s a whole other conversation.”
Belichick, who just wrapped up his 24th season as head coach of the Patriots, also serves as the franchise’s general manager, and his performance as both an executive and coach have been questioned in recent years.
After six Super Bowl wins, Belichick and New England are just 29–38 since Tom Brady’s departure in 2020. It remains to be seen whether team owner Robert Kraft is finally ready to move on from Belichick, and any such move will rock the NFL world.
