Now that Bill Belichick has agreed to be the new head coach at the University of North Carolina, there has been one question everyone is wondering: how long will it last?
Belichick reportedly signed a five-year, $50 million deal to take over the vacant job left in the wake of Mack Brown being fired. Some have wondered if the legendary coach is using the opportunity as a stepping ladder back to the NFL, where he is only 15 wins away from surpassing Don Shula’s wins record.
When asked about the fear of him potentially leaving, Belichick quelled all of those concerns with a six-word response.
“I didn’t come here to leave,” Belichick said at an introductory press conference on Thursday.
That sounds like Belichick is in it for the long haul. He’s going to roll up his sleeves and work hard in an attempt to take the 6-6 Tar Heels to a perennial contender.
Multiple former players and coaches, including legendary college coach Nick Saban, have voiced their opinions that Belichick will find success in his latest venture.
