Biker's brush with death after head 'bounces off floor' in horror hit-and-run smash

A motorcyclist says he is 'lucky to be alive' after being thrown off his bike in a shocking 'hit and run' collision.

Anton Thorley, 28, was riding his Honda motorcycle to work in Longton, Staffordshire on Tuesday morning when he was hit by a dark grey Alfa Romeo shortly before 7am, reports Stoke-on-Trent Live.

The impact of the crash saw him thrown off his bike, and his head then 'bounced off the floor' before his own motorbike landed on top of him.

But instead of calling for help, the Romeo driver pulled over, got out of his vehicle and looked at him - before quickly getting back in his car and driving off.

Anton is now hoping a witness or someone close to the driver will come forward to identify the driver, telling Stoke-on-Trent Live : "I have been riding a motorbike for 10 years and this is the first accident I have had.

"He slowed up and pulled over at the bus stop across the road. Police checked the CCTV. He got out of the car, looked at me and drove off.

"It was too dark and the police do not have the registration plate. It was a dark grey Alfa Romeo. Hopefully anyone who knows who the driver was will come forward."

Anton, who works at Longton door company Robust UK, was shockingly left with only a limp and "that's about it" from the incident in terms of injuries, but nonetheless wants the hit-and-run driver brought to justice.

He says paramedics told him he was very fortunate not to be seriously injured, with one even commenting: "Someone is definitely watching over you"

He added: "I am lucky to be alive, even the police have said that. They have seen the video. They said, 'You are lucky to be going to work today'."

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "The Alfa Romeo had left the scene, towards Dividy Road, prior to officers' arrival. The driver of the motorbike, a man in his 20s, underwent precautionary checks at the scene. Inquiries are continuing."

Anyone with information, relevant dashcam or CCTV footage is being asked to direct message Staffordshire Police on Facebook, Twitter, or call 101, quoting incident number 100 of November 23.
