Biker in his 30s dies in M53 crash

A biker in his 30s died after the M53 was shut last night.

Merseyside Police confirmed officers were called to junction two of the M53 at the entrance of the southbound carriageway at around 7.25pm to reports of a crash involving a Suzuki motorbike hitting the barrier of the carriageway.

The driver of the motorcycle, a man in his 30s, died at the scene. His family have been told and an investigation is now underway with CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries.

Officers closed the M53 in both directions around junction two, including Moreton Spur. A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision in Moreton this evening, Sunday 17 July.

"At around 7.25pm, emergency services were called to Junction 2 of the M53, at the entrance to the southbound carriageway, to reports of a collision involving a Suzuki motorbike. The driver of the motorcycle, a man in his 30s, sadly passed away at the scene.

"His family have been informed. An investigation is underway, including CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries. Officers closed the M53 in both directions around junction 2, including the Moreton Spur.

"We would like to thank drivers and residents for their patience as we dealt with this incident."
