Bihar: Stone pelting during Chehallum procession in Arrah, heavy police force deployed

Bhojpur: A stone pelting incident during the Chehallum procession in Bihar's Arrah which resulted in a clash between the two communities was reported late Thursday evening.

Following this, two individuals involved in stone pelting were arrested and heavy police force was deployed in the area, said police.
  
According to the information received by officials, the Tajiya procession of Chehallum was passing through Sheesh Mahal Chowk late in the evening when some mischievous elements from a house attacked the procession.

Two people were hit during the stone pelting and both were injured, said police.

Bhojpur District Magistrate Rajkumar and SP Pramod Kumar Yadav reportedly reached the spot as soon as they got information about the incident and started monitoring every moment.

"The situation was brought under control within five to ten minutes by police force...there are no reports of any further damage to property or person...," said SP Pramod Kumar Yadav.

Two people involved in the incident have been detained on the basis of CCTV footage and are being interrogated, said police.

"The individuals detained are brothers and both of them were intoxicated and they have admitted that they did nuisance under the influence of alcohol...we have taken CCTV footage and people who pelted stones from the crowd below are also being marked and appropriate action will be taken against them as well..." said SP Yadav.

He further said, "As a precautionary measure, heavy police force and senior officials have been deployed in the area."

Earlier, in August, clashes erupted between two groups during a Mahaviri Yatra flag march in the Motihari district of Bihar on the occasion of Nag Panchami.

According to police, many people along with police personnel got injured in the clashes.

According to preliminary information, the procession was going peacefully from Pipra village to Pachhiyari Tola, when bricks and stones were hurled at the people carrying the procession. 

Dharmendra Yadav, SHO of Darpa Police Station was also injured in the incident.

“Force and Magistrate are present everywhere. It is peaceful now. We are keeping an eye. I request everybody to participate in the Mahaviri Yatra peacefully,” Nand Parsad, SDPO said. (ANI)
