GAYA: Hundreds of students who have passed various undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses from constituent colleges under Magadh University (MU) are either unable to get admission for higher education or joining jobs due to inordinate delay in issuance of certificates by the university.
"I have qualified the test for admission in PG diploma in geoinformation science and earth observation at Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS). But I have to submit my degree certificate for admission by August 20. I will knock the door of judiciary if I don't get it by then," said Anushka of Buddha Colony in Patna and a student of MU.
Smriti Sinha of Maharani Road in Gaya said she missed an opportunity to take admission in postgraduate course at the Indian Agriculture Research Institute (ICAR) due to non-availability of her graduation certificate. "I have completed my graduation in biotechnology from Gaya College, but yet to get my degree certificate," she said.
The coordinator of Inqalabi Students' Union, Deepak Kumar Dangi, said the students' union has launched an agitation demanding conducting of examinations and publication of results and issuance of certificates on time. "Examinations of almost all the courses are delayed by two to three years, which make the career prospects of many students uncertain," he said. The main reason behind the delay is corruption cases being faced by the university top brass, including its former VC, university sources said.
A member of the MU Non-Teaching Employees Union, preferring anonymity, said, "Neither there is a regular VC nor pro-VC nor the registrar. Raj Bhavan has banned admissions in vocational courses. Examinations are also not being held on time. Students are running from pillar to post to get their certificates issued."
The MU offers 704 courses across 13 undergraduate, postgraduate and other streams. It has 44 constituent colleges and 85 institutes affiliated to it. The university has over 2 lakh students and over 2,000 teachers.
