We have seen some truly bizarre moments through the years, but this 'own try' that was given by the TMO will surely be the one that tops that list.
The moment, from a game between Sydney Stars and North Harbour Rays in the National Rugby Championship (NRC), has since been ranked as the funniest moment in rugby. The video has racked up over 400,000 views, and is listed on YouTube among the most comical things to happen on a pitch.
Defending a ruck right on the try line, North Harbour Rays prop Mitch Lewis places the ball back to the scrum-half to collect. Sounds simple enough, doesn't it? Well not in this case.
The commentators initially believed that Sydney Stars should have been awarded a try, but after watching the replays, they see that it is Lewis of the Rays who touches the ball down in the act of laying it back. It is obvious that the source of the confusion is that both teams' kits have yellow on their shoulders.

"The yellow sleeve there is tricking you," said the commentator.
The camera cuts back to the referee, as he is conversing with the Television Match Official, with the incident looking sure to be cleared up.
But, moments later, a try is given for the Sydney Stars, scored by Mitch Lewis... of the North Harbour Rays! Cue to the commentary team going absolutely wild as they watch an 'own try' accidentally awarded for the first time in rugby history. It makes for mind-blowing viewing.
"I think Mitch Lewis has scored a try for the Stars. What is going on?! Mitch? What happened?" said one commentator.
"I can't make any sense of it" said another.
"What?! Are you kidding me?" yelps the first commentator.
The National Rugby Championship was comprised of eight teams, formed from regional areas in Australia and one from Fiji. However it was cancelled during the pandemic.
