The Big3 Basketball League, co-founded by Ice Cube, has issued a challenge to the Netherlands’ men’s 3x3 basketball team following their gold medal win. The Dutch squad emerged victorious in a closely contested match against France at the Paris Olympics, with Worthy de Jong sealing the victory with a crucial 2-pointer in overtime, resulting in an 18-17 win. De Jong contributed seven points to the team's success.
In response to the Dutch team's triumph, the Big3 Basketball League took to social media to extend an official challenge to @3x3nl for a game against the BIG3 All Stars in Boston on August 18th. The league has offered to cover all travel expenses for the Dutch team, with the winner set to claim a prize of $150,000.
Reflecting on the historic win, de Jong expressed his joy and gratitude, stating, “I started to feel like that kid that fell in love with basketball all over again.” He emphasized the importance of hard work and passion in achieving success, highlighting the transformative power of dedication and enjoyment in one's craft.
De Jong also shared his hopes that the gold medal victory will generate increased interest in 3x3 basketball within the Netherlands. He noted the significant progress made by the team, remarking, “Before 3x3 basketball, we were never in a position to make it to the Olympics or even make it to a world championship.”
