'Big step' as new Arnold salon owner bets on success of 'tucked away' business

The owner of a new 'tucked away' Nottinghamshire salon is betting on its success. Jordan Dilks, 25, started working in a salon at 16-years-old, and has now taken the big step of setting up her own on Chapel Lane, Arnold.

Her new business, Studio Mae, is replacing printing company House Of Harman and is scheduled to open on Wednesday, May 10. Prior to this Jordan had managed a Nottingham salon for five and a half years, and then worked self-employed out of a West Bridgford salon for the last four years.

Jordan said she hoped the salon's concealed location would make it a cosy and welcoming space for those wanting a more private experience. "It is a big step, very risky in the current climate but I have enough clients on board to make it doable," she said.

"The places I have worked before have always had a big shopfront, but this is more of a small studio. I think in this day and age that's appealing - we have a lot of clients that suffer from anxiety and I do a lot of wedding trials, so you don't want to be on display.

"Especially if you have treatments done and come out a bit red you don't want people looking in. I think client wise it is a lot better to be tucked away and it is a lot quieter as well."

After Wednesday's opening there will be an opening party on Friday night, with a 20 per cent discount offered to new clients. One of Jordan's colleagues is moving with her to the studio, and the business owner explained there would be a pop-up aesthetics clinic once a month, as well as people offering brow and lash treatments.

Jordan also outlined her plans to teach others from the new premises. "I am a teacher for beauty as well, which I haven't pursued yet as I didn't have the space to do so. From this studio I'll be offering one-to-one training, as opposed to going to college which a lot of people don't do now," she added.
