The exclusive event was to honour nominees of the 72nd BAFTA Awards, which will take place tomorrow night at the Royal Albert Hall.

Speaking to red carpet host Alice Levine, nominee Richard E. Grant - who made headlines earlier this week for his excited selfies at the Oscars Nominees Luncheon - joked that "it's very hard to be in control" after receiving both a BAFTA and an Oscar nomination for his role in Can You Ever Forgive Me? opposite Melissa McCarthy.

McCarthy, who is also nominated tomorrow night in the Leading Actress category, said of working with Grant, "I think even the parts that were difficult and heartbreaking to shoot it was still so fun to do it with Richard, someone who was so in 150%, it made everything that much better."

Amy Adams also walked the red carpet in a black dress. Adams has been nominated for a BAFTA award seven times and is recognised again this year in the Supporting Actress category for her role as Lynne Cheney in Vice.

Actor, writer and director Noel Clarke spoke of the influence the EE Rising Star award he won in 2009 had on his career. "It's probably the only reason I'm still working in the business at a decent level, it changed a lot of things for me" he said. He also talked about how much BlacKkKlansman director Spike Lee inspired his career in particular, joking that he would definitely "clear his diary" for a chance to work with him.

Black Mirror writer Charlie Brooker and his wife Konnie Huq also caught up with Levine on the red carpet. When asked about how streaming platforms like Netflix had changed the game for TV and film, Huq said, "what's good is you don't have to keep everything to set episode times, it's not as confined to being on the telly." Brooker chimed in to say, "we could do a one-minute episode. Or technically [something like] Bandersnatch, which was five and a half hours."

Lorraine Ashbourne and Andy Serkis (Dave Benett/Getty Images)

Andy Serkis, who will present the Original Music Score award with his Black Panther co-star Danai Gurira tomorrow night, said he was "rooting for Claire Foy, who I adore and have worked with." Foy is nominated for Supporting Actress for the Neil Armstrong biopic First Man.

A number of other Brits are up for awards at the ceremony on Sunday night, including Olivia Colman - who won a Golden Globe earlier this year for The Favourite - and Christian Bale for his role as Dick Cheney in Vice.

British actress Jessie Buckley is also nominated for an EE Rising Star Award. Buckley's latest role is in the critically-acclaimed Wild Rose, where she stars opposite Julie Walters.

"I’m so thrilled and honestly surprised people reacted to it the way they have [to the film]" Buckley told A List earlier this week,"[Dame Julie] was so lovely. I mean what the hell? I got to work with Julie Walters. That is insane.”
