Big iFollow update for Bolton Wanderers, Sheffield Wednesday & Derby County during World Cup

All EFL games in Leagues One and Two taking place during the winter World Cup including on Saturdays at 3pm can be streamed via the iFollow platform, it has been revealed.

The EFL's AGM recently took place and the subject of the streaming service for the upcoming campaign. The Qatar World Cup runs during November and December.

During this time, the Premier League and the Championship will pause, but League One and League Two will continue where possible. The second tier will pause from November 12 until December 10, resuming on the same weekend as the World Cup knock out matches.

Should Bolton Wanderers not receive sufficient international call-ups during this period, then their games will continue as normal. Typically, three players from a team need to be called up by their international teams for a game to be suitable for postponement criteria.

That was the case in March of this year, when the home clash against Portsmouth was moved owing to call-ups in both camps. It was rescheduled as a midweek evening game in April.

But at the AGM, clubs in Leagues One and Two voted to expand the iFollow streaming platform for the upcoming campaign and make it compulsory for all available matches to be shown. It will include games taking place during the winter World Cup, Boxing Day and New Year's Day fixtures, according to inews.

The Manchester Evening News understands that games kicking off at 3pm on Saturdays during the World Cup can be streamed. The normal domestic blackout will apply outside of this for these games.

Wanderers have two League One games that take place during the winter World Cup at the moment when the Premier League and Championship will be paused. The Whites travel to Fleetwood Town on Saturday, November 19, before hosting Bristol Rovers on Saturday, December 3.

It means both of these games can be streamed on iFollow. Midweek matches, displaced games, bank holiday games and Papa John's Trophy matches will also be shown on a compulsory basis, with the club which sells the stream keeping the revenue.

iFollow proved to be a lucrative stream of revenue for Wanderers last season. The League One side made £500,000 in gross revenue from the service in the 2021/22 campaign.
