Big-hearted Paisley siblings scoop citizens award for their role in the community

The Pat McCarthy Memorial Citizens Award was this year presented to a pair of big-hearted Glenburn siblings.

Joint winners Ian Brown – who owns and runs the Glen-Bun Bakers – and his sister Laura Brown were presented with the award in recognition of their role in the community.

Both Ian and Laura play generous roles in the community with Ian giving schoolkids a breakfast, collecting hats and gloves in the winter for the homeless and Laura organising Christmas gifts and parties for those struggling; and providing food donations during the cost-of-living crisis.

The award is organised each year by a sub group of The Thursday Club, a pensioners group supported by Renfrewshire Council who meet in St Peter’s Men’s Club each week and the prize was presented there by former councillor Bill Martin.

Bill said: “It would be hard to find anyone in Glenburn who doesn’t know Ian or Laura Brown who are two exceptional Glenburn through and through people who could not be better recipients of this year’s citizens award.

“This award is for unsung heroes who deserve some recognition for what they do to make Glenburn the caring community that it is.”
