Big change to two popular Quality Street chocolates ahead of Christmas

Quality Street is making a major change to its chocolate collection in the run-up to Christmas.

The confectionery company announced that it will wrap two of its chocolate differently due to a shortage in foil. A special limited edition of tubs, pouches, and cartons will include the hazelnut noisette, known as the Green Triangle, wrapped in a golden hue instead of the usual green.

Meanwhile, the Orange Crunch will be wrapped in dark bronze instead of the orange foil we're used to seeing. The packs were being produced at Nestle's Halifax factory when they were alerted to the fact that there would not be enough green and orange foil to cover a planned production run that took place last week.

Quality Street's Senior Brand Manager, Jemma Handley, said: "I promise this isn't a publicity stunt. We've not added full-size chocolate bars to the tin or removed the coconut flavour from a handful of tubs.

"We simply didn't have enough of the right coloured foil to cover the production run of the two sweets in question and, rather than leave them out of the selection altogether, we decided to use different colours for a very limited period"

"We are fairly sure this is the first time this has happened so anybody who finds a green triangle or an orange crunch in a different coloured foil will have something of a rarity on their hands. I am pleased to say that it's the same delicious hazelnut and orange sweets inside the wrappers, regardless of their colour."

Reacting to the change on Twitter Quality Street fans were all saying the same thing. @Znudd tweeted: "LOVE a green triangle… but it’s gold?!?

@CharlotteShimmy added: "Gold triangle*"

And @georgie_lordie said: "I’ve been looking at this all day…from many different angles…but all I see is gold."

The change comes after Nestle announced earlier this year that cellulose wrappers often used on the chocolates will be gradually replaced with paper wrap. It means around two billion pieces of packaging will be removed from the supply chain.
