'Big addition' - Jordan Henderson makes claim over Liverpool midfield transfer

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has praised new boy Fabio Carvalho and says he 'can see why' the youngster stood out at Fulham.

The 19-year-old joined the Reds from the newly-promoted side earlier this summer. A deal was finally reached after the initial move fell through back in January.

Carvalho has already had a positive start to life on Merseyside and impressed throughout the club's pre-season campaign. He may have only played 12 minutes against his former side in their opening game last weekend, but Henderson predicts big things for the Portuguese youth international.

"I can see why he stood out at Fulham," Henderson told talkSPORT. "He's quality, he's come in and settled really well. He looks at home, to be honest.

"He's really good technically and he's a great lad. You can see how much he wants to be a player and wants to improve, he'll be a big addition this season.

"Not only this season, in the future going forward (too). Hopefully he can hit the ground running and make a big impact for us this season."

Henderson isn't the only one to believe Carvalho will have a big part to play this season, manager Jurgen Klopp shared a similar sentiment in his pre-match press conference before the recent 2-2 draw with Fulham.

"Top player. I really love it. He's a massive talent and a really good kid," the Reds boss said. "I'm really happy to have him, so it's very important for us because we count on this age group as well. We don't wait now until they are 22, 23 or whatever and use them.

"He is ready like Harvey (Elliott) is ready in the similar age group. That's really cool. We all need luck in life as well with injury and stuff like this, but without that he will be a really important player for us."
