Biffy Clyro announce new Amazon documentary ‘Cultural Sons Of Scotland’

Scots rockers Biffy Clyro have announced details of an incredibly exciting documentary set to be released on Amazon Prime next week.

The documentary, titled Cultural Sons Of Scotland, will provide an intimate insight into the legendary band's recording process for album ninth studio album, ‘The Myth of the Happily Ever After’.

As well as covering the recording of their new album, the documentary also traces Biffy Clyro’s 20-year history and sees them return to Glasgow for a massive 2021 show at Glasgow Green.

The documentary was filmed over three months in 2021, showing the moments where the band unexpectedly found themselves back where it all began: the west coast of Scotland.

The film synopsis reads: “With unprecedented access to the band, the new feature length film takes viewers on the journey with Simon, Ben and James as they return to their home in Ayrshire to create their latest, critically acclaimed album in the most unusual of studio environments.

“The film explores how the experience of recording an album in Scotland for the first time prompted the band to reflect on the importance of where they’re from, how this has influenced their career to date and reinforced their lifelong bond as friends and bandmates.”

Speaking of the new film, frontman Simon Neil said: “In the same part of the world as I wrote my very first song is where we’re making this record, and there’s something really pure about that.”

Drummer Ben Johnston added: “We don’t need all the bells and whistles for us to be fulfilled and happy, we just need the three of us to be making music together and have that vibe in a room – and that’s what keeps our hearts beating.”

“Everyone should join a band…” bassist James Johnston said. “If you get a chance to go join a band with your brothers or your sisters, or people you consider to be a brother or a sister, that’s probably the best years you’ll ever have in your life.”

If fans are interested in getting the full viewing experience a day earlier, there are four cinema showing for the documentary across Scotland.

Biffy Clyro: Cultural Sons of Scotland' screenings will take place on February 24, at Everyman in Glasgow, Dalston’s Rio Cinema, Cameo in Edinburgh and DCA in Dundee.

Tickets are available now here.

The documentary will premiere on Friday, February 25 on Amazon Prime.
