The Biden administration is urging Ukraine to bolster its military forces by increasing the number of troops and revising its mobilization laws. The administration is recommending that Ukraine lower the mobilization age from 25 to 18 to expand the pool of eligible fighters to assist in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Since Russia's invasion in February 2022, the White House has provided over $56 billion in security assistance to Ukraine and plans to allocate additional funds before President Biden's term ends. However, the administration now emphasizes the importance of enhancing Ukraine's manpower alongside the existing military support.
According to a senior administration official, Ukraine is seeking approximately 160,000 additional troops, but the U.S. government believes that a higher number may be necessary for Ukraine to effectively combat Russian forces.
